Frequently Asked Questions About Flooring Calculator
How many boxes of flooring do I need?
Multiply the room area by 1 plus the waste percentage (about 10%), then divide by the square footage printed on each box. Round up. The calculator does this and gives the exact box count for your waste setting.
How much waste should I add for flooring?
About 10% waste covers cuts and offcuts for a rectangular room. Use 15% for diagonal layouts, herringbone patterns or rooms with many corners. The waste slider lets you set the right margin.
Where do I find the coverage per box?
The square footage each box covers is printed on the carton label, usually between 18 and 25 sq ft for laminate and vinyl plank. Enter that number and the calculator converts your room area into boxes.
Do I need underlayment and transitions?
Underlayment cushions and sound-proofs beneath laminate and engineered floors (about one roll per 100 sq ft), and transition strips cover the gaps where the floor meets other rooms. The calculator estimates both from your room area and perimeter.
Is this flooring calculator free?
